Psychotherapy - My Own Practice
| My first aim as a psychotherapist, in accord with a humanistic approach, is simply to be kind. The fundamental aim of clinical practice is to help people, and kindness and compassion are fundamental to that goal. There is an art to the practice of psychotherapy, and kindness and compassion are central to the therapeutic relationship. Secondly, as a cognitive behavioural therapist, I subscribe to the principles of scientific psychotherapy. People seeking psychotherapy want safe and effective solutions to the issues concerning them. The most compelling case for scientific psychotherapy, of which CBT is the clearest example, is simply that it works. I trained in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy in the Department of Psychiatry at University College London. I am accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am a British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologist and am on the BPS Register of Senior Practitioners Specialising in Psychotherapy (BPS). I am a recognised psychotherapy provider by many medical insurance companies in Britain, and clients covered by such policies may be eligible to reclaim some or all of their treatment fees. Whilst I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and open to new scientific developments in treatment from elsewhere, my principal, albeit not exclusive, affiliation is to CBT. This is because CBT is founded upon objective scientific evidence and a genuinely co-operative methodology; it comprises the most comprehensively researched form of psychotherapy currently available. However, importantly, CBT also serves to empower people and engenders hope and optimism. |
I offer individually tailored CBT treatment programmes for a wide range of psychological difficulties, of either long duration or more recent onset. My practices are London based, in Knightsbridge and Barnes. Visits to your home or office can be made by prior arrangement. My clients come from widely differing backgrounds, ranging from students to influential professionals who are leaders in their fields. Recent client groups have included: academics, accountants, ambassadors, architects, artists, barristers, broadcasters, chief executives, civil servants, entrepreneurs, investment bankers, home makers, judges, military personnel, musicians, physicians, psychiatrists, publishers, retired people, solicitors, students, surgeons, teachers, those seeking employment etc. They come with concerns that detract from their enjoyment of life, and a desire to enhance happiness and fulfillment, both professionally and personally. I accept referrals from General Practitioners and Psychiatrists, or self-referrals directly. Prospective private clients, however referred, are free to contact me for an initial discussion of their requirements. |
